The wide 21-inch diameter funnel swallows leaves as fast as you can feed them, mincing them down to fine mulch. This little unit is surprisingly powerful, and at only 17 pounds it’s so light you can mount it atop a trash can or bungee-cord a plastic bag to the outfeed and collect the waste. Out of the box, it goes together literally in minutes with just a screwdriver. The hopper tilts to 45 degrees to make loading easier, and the sliding control lever is easy to read, with settings for grass, thatch, wet leaves, dry leaves and pine needles. Double cutting lines are powered by an 8-amp motor on regular household current, and the motor intake filter comes out easily for cleaning. A built-in storage compartment keeps extra line at the ready, and changing cutter lines is easy. It’s a great unit for the homeowner, reducing 11 bags of leaves to just one bag of mulch, ready for use in flower beds and vegetable gardens.I–Kris Jensen-Van Heste/I

Does what it says it will! Bought it for $150 from amazon January 18, 2009

This is a well built machine that made quick work of the leaves both dry and damp. I ended up putting the machine in my trash tote to increase the volume of leaves I could mulch before needing to change the bag. Putting it in the tote allowed me to fill the trash bag to its capacity before changing it. As the other comments have stated, you need to feed the machine slowly otherwise it will get bogged down. I set mine to a fine shred and got great results! The additional money for being able to rotate the shredder drum was worth it. It made storage a lot easier. I was able to fit it in my metro because of this feature. The only improvements I would make would be to increase the length of the legs to allow the trash bags you will attach to fill completely and I would increase the gauge of the cutting strings to make them last longer.
Flowtron leaf Pine needle Shredder January 11, 2009

Works like a charm, even on damp or wet leaves. Sticks and branches must be removed before dropping the leaves, or pine tree droppings in. It even took a number of gum balls from out sweet gum tree without a problem. Safty glasses are a good idea, since small pieces of stuff can be ejected.

This is the second Flotron Leaf Eater that I have purchased. br /The first one has to be 20 years old, and is still going strong! br /The new one is easier to use and works “GREAT.” I definitely reccommend this product for anyone who wants to shred and compost leaves! br /It works just “as advertised.” It’s perfect!

Jams easily. Clearing the jam could cost you a finger. Not an efficient piece of equipment.

This machine performed exactly as described. Ease of assembly: What could be easier? The only tool required is a Philips screw driver! If it is used according to instructions, it performs quite well. Keep those sticks out! It is, after all, just a weed wacker on steroids. Don’t overload the hopper, give it time to digest, and all will be well. My sycamores produce alot of dust, so a dust mask is indispensible. If you want to mulch leaves, this is the product for you. If you want to grind twigs and branches, get something else. 5 stars. A quality product for the price.
